Handmaids of the Holy Child Jesus nurtures 150 students, Cameroon – Catholic Mission Outreach

With your generosity, the Handmaids of the Holy Child Jesus are helping children earn an education in Cameroon!

The Congregation of the Handmaids of the Holy Child Jesus (HHCJ), West/East Africa was a 2022-2023 Grant Award Recipient of Catholic Mission Outreach. In January 2025, we received an update from the congregation, discussing the tangible impact of your generosity to Catholic Mission Outreach.

What is Catholic Mission Outreach?

Catholic Mission Outreach (CMO) is the international outreach program of the Archdiocese of Atlanta that supports the work of evangelization and serves the needs of the poor throughout the Catholic Church worldwide. It is funded primarily through second collections in parishes as well as direct donations to the CMO fund.

How Your Generosity Made a Difference

Located near Bamenda and Bali, the Ancilla Catholic Nursery and Primary and Comprehensive College are schools owned and managed by the Handmaids of the Holy Child Jesus. With the sisters’ leadership, these schools aim to provide quality education to boys and girls in Cameroon and beyond. These students struggle to pay school fees as their parents have lost their main sources of income.

The donation given to the sisters has uplifted 150 students by:

  • Tending to the literacy needs of each student
  • Providing psychological intervention for the students, parents, and teachers
  • Weekly meals

These initiatives will reach the sisters’ and school’s goal of supporting the community to recover from trauma and engage the children in learning and reaching their potential.
