Meet Jesus Alonso – Archdiocese of Atlanta Seminarian  

“Thanks to gifts to the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal, I can continue my formation for the priesthood. I strive to serve the Church, and without your support, this journey would be far more challenging.”

This scripture embodies my vocation and mission to bring hope and healing: Isaiah 61:1: “The spirit of the Lord God is upon me because the Lord has anointed me; he has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and release to the prisoners.” I am in my 2nd year of theology at St. Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary. Throughout my
journey, I’ve felt gentle signs of my calling, but it was during a Mass with Pope Benedict XVI in León, Guanajuato, that I felt it most strongly. My family has been a pillar of support from the beginning, encouraging my decision to pursue this path. Friends and family often seek my advice, which honors me, but I also rely on them for guidance. This mutual exchange enriches our spiritual lives. Knowing I can help others grow closer to God fills me with gratitude.

Este versículo expresa mi vocación y misión de brindar esperanza y sanación: Isaías 61:1: “El Señor Dios ha puesto su Espíritu en mí porque el Señor me ungió con aceite para anunciar las buenas noticias a los pobres. Me ha enviado a sanar a los afligidos, a anunciar liberación a los prisioneros y libertad a los presos”. 

Curso mi segundo año de teología en St. Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary. A través de mi vida, he sentido señales suaves de mi llamado, pero fue durante una misa con el Papa Benedicto XVI en León, Guanajuato, que lo sentí con más fuerza.  

Mi familia ha sido un pilar de apoyo desde el principio, motivándome en mi decisión de seguir este camino. Amigos y familiares a menudo buscan mi consejo, lo cual me honra, pero también confío en ellos para recibir orientación. Este intercambio mutuo enriquece nuestras vidas espirituales. Saber que puedo ayudar a otros a acercarse a Dios me llena de gratitud. Gracias a las donaciones a la Campaña Anual del Arzobispo, puedo continuar mi formación para convertirme en sacerdote. Me esfuerzo por servir a la Iglesia, y sin su apoyo, este camino sería mucho más difícil.
