Meet Thomas Fagbamiye, Active Member of Black Catholic Ministry, Funded by Archbishop’s Appeal

Thomas Fagbamiye shared this message about his ministry, which is partially funded by the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal:

I have lived here for 40 years and am originally from Nigeria. Along with being the state Wheelchair Fund Director in the State of Georgia and a member of Knights of Columbus, I am a champion for the Archdiocese’s Black Catholic Ministry. My involvement with the Black Catholic Ministry stems from a deep commitment to supporting and celebrating the unique cultural and spiritual contributions of Black Catholics. 

The ministry plays a crucial role in fostering a sense of community, identity, and faith within the Church, and I wanted to be part of that positive impact. Engaging with the Black Catholic Ministry allows me to contribute to a space where people can connect their cultural heritage with their faith, address relevant issues, and promote greater understanding and unity within the broader Church community. When I first got involved, my main role initially was volunteering as a translator. I was the Prayers of the Faithful intercessor at the Eucharistic Congress and Archdiocese Rite of Election.  I am very proud to help in facilitating the Black Catholic spirituality and hospitality specific to the Black experience through the lens of our Roman Catholic tradition.

He vivido aquí desde hace 40 años, soy originario de Nigeria. Mi participación en el Ministerio Católico Negro proviene de un profundo compromiso con la celebración de las contribuciones culturales y espirituales únicas de los católicos negros. Este ministerio fomenta un sentido de comunidad, identidad y fe dentro de la Iglesia, y yo quería ser parte de ese impacto positivo. Participar en el Ministerio Católico Negro me permite conectar el patrimonio cultural con la fe, abordar cuestiones relevantes y promover la unidad dentro de una comunidad mayor en la Iglesia. Cuando me involucré por primera vez, mi función principal era la traducir como voluntario. Fui intercesor de las Oraciones de los Fieles en el Congreso Eucarístico y en el Rito de Elección de la arquidiócesis. Me siento orgulloso de facilitar la espiritualidad y la hospitalidad católicas negras específicas de nuestra experiencia a través de nuestra tradición católica romana.
