Over 150 Spanish Bibles Delivered to ICE Detention Unit
Thanks to our Restorative Justice Ministry and your compassionate donations to the Office of Mission Advancement General Fund, the Word of God will provide solace and courage to detained individuals.
An essential component of the Archdiocese of Atlanta’s Restorative Justice Ministry, the Prison Ministry team was invited by federal prison chaplains to minister at the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Detention Unit, created in January.
With boxes in tow, Imelda Richárd, coordinator for the Prison Ministry, and Father Robert Perez Carrasco OFM, Cap. entered the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Atlanta.

Between answering this call and continuing their work at the Dekalb County Jail and the Robert A. Deyton Detention Facility in Lovejoy, their supply of Spanish-language Bibles was dwindling.

“After Mass, which we celebrate in the chaplain’s office…the men lined up to get a Bible and other religious materials, such as prayer books and holy cards. We ran out of Bibles before the line ended.”
-Imelda Richárd, Coordinator for Prison Ministry
Your kind support is the answer to their prayers. 160 Spanish Bibles will be delivered to the ICE Detention Unit. Costing $7.95 each, these Bibles allow both detainees and incarcerated individuals to stay connected to the faith. This need for God’s loving Word is ongoing, and every donation you make changes lives. Please consider sponsoring a bible.
“Men in the detention unit ask for Bibles in Spanish every time they see us. It becomes their biggest treasure during detention.” -Imelda
