Second Collections

Why Have a Second Collection?

Second collections are a stewardship learning moment.  As Catholics we are part of a universal Church that extends well beyond our own parish boundaries.  Jesus calls us to “make disciples of all nations” (Mt. 28:19).  The bishops in the United States created the national collections so that by combining our resources we can more effectively carry out our mission as Catholics.  Each of the collections is worthy of support and represents our community of faith at its best—working in the world, improving lives, and saving souls.

Please view these collections in the light of stewardship and sharing. God has given us our life and our prosperity; it is right and just that we give something back helping people in our own country and throughout the world. Thank you for your generous response!

Archdiocesan Hispanic Ministries

The help we provide to our Hispanic brothers and sisters is accompanied by pastoral services such as religious education, evangelization programs, the sacraments and the Eucharist in their language and culture for their spiritual support and integration into parish life.

Catholic Charities Atlanta

Your gift to this Second Collection will extend the love and light of Jesus as we enable families to finally break the cycle of poverty and become self-reliant.  Every donation—large or small—nourishes the hope of those most vulnerable and helps families get back on the road to independence.

Retirement Fund for the Religious Second Collection

Elderly religious need your help. Thousands of senior sisters, brothers and religious order priests have served for years—educating the young, comforting the sick and ministering to the less fortunate. Many religious communities do not have enough retirement savings and struggle to provide for aging members. Your gift to the Retirement Fund for the Religious collection helps provide medications, nursing care, and more.

Campaign for Human Development Second Collection

The Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) works to be a voice of hope for those on the margins of society who experience the realities of living in poverty. This collection supports programs that empower people to identify and address obstacles they face in bringing permanent and positive changes to their communities.

Seminarians Second Collection

Please provide a sound future for the seminarians here in the Archdiocese of Atlanta by giving generously to the Archdiocesan Seminarians’ collection.

Church in Latin America/Central and Eastern Europe/World Missions Second Collection

This second collection is a combination of three second collections: World Missions, the Church in Latin America and the Church in Central and Eastern Europe. Our offerings will support the work and witness of those who selflessly give up all for the sake of our Lord and his Gospel — the local priests, religious and lay catechists who daily provide loving service to the poor and suffering.

Saint Vincent De Paul Second Collection

With a vast network of volunteers, community partners, and dedicated staff, SVdP Georgia provides life-changing programs and services, offering direct aid assistance, Client Choice Food Pantries, and support to help clients achieve stability and self-sufficiency.

Catholic University of America Second Collection

By giving to the collection, you are supporting future Catholic leaders, both religious and lay, who are being formed by an exceptional, faith-rooted education and the university’s various research and training initiatives that support dioceses and parishes in responding to the most pressing needs of their faithful.

Archdiocese for the Military Services Second Collection

The ministries offered by the AMS benefit those who serve in all six branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, are enrolled in U.S. Military Academies, undergo treatment at any of the 153 Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Centers, work in civilian jobs for the federal government beyond U.S. borders - and their families.

Catholic Mission Outreach Second Collection

Your funding for the Catholic Mission Outreach Second Collection is the financial fuel to help assist dioceses in most need, from religious orders of men and women serving worldwide to local dioceses and ministries in financial crises. In 2022 and 2023, your generosity to Catholic Mission Outreach enriched the lives of the most vulnerable in 37 dioceses from 20 countries.

Peter's Pence Second Collection

Through the Peter’s Pence collection, we can support the charitable works of Pope Francis and our Universal Church.

Please visit the USCCB Website for more materials.

Catholic Communications May 12

Reading and meditating on the Word of God is a devotion that opens our hearts to the promptings of the Holy Spirit and draws us closer into communion with the whole Church, especially when we meditate on the Scripture passages used in the Mass.

Please visit the USCCB Website for more materials.

Catholic Home Mission- April 28

Home mission dioceses are those Catholic dioceses in the United States, its territories, and former territories that cannot provide basic pastoral services without outside help. Basic pastoral services include Mass, the sacraments, religious education, and ministry training for priests, deacons, religious sisters, and laypeople. Nearly 40% of dioceses in the United States and its territories are considered home missions.

Please visit the USCCB Website for resources. If you need any support with graphics, please reach out to Krysten Maranville at kmaranville@archatl.com

Donor Rights

We take our donors’ intentions seriously.  The Archdiocese of Atlanta has adopted a “Donor Bill of Rights.” to assure you that the gifts you give, whether at the parish level or the archdiocesan level, will be used for the purposes for which they were given. If for some reason, a donor does not wish to support an organization designated for the second collection, they need only withhold their second collection gift on that particular Sunday.
