Providing safety and security for resident foster care children at COAR Children’s Village in Zaragoza, El Salvador – Catholic Mission Outreach
Your compassionate giving to this second collection in July has ensured COAR Peace Mission can provide 24/7 security services for resident foster care children and their parish school at COAR Children’s Village in the Archdiocese of San Salvador.
COAR Peace Mission, El Salvador, was a 2022-2023 Grant Award Recipient of Catholic Mission Outreach. In June 2025, we received an update from COAR Peace Mission, discussing the tangible impact of your generosity to Catholic Mission Outreach.
What is Catholic Mission Outreach?
Catholic Mission Outreach (CMO) is the international outreach program of the Archdiocese of Atlanta that supports the work of evangelization and serves the needs of the poor throughout the Catholic Church worldwide. It is funded primarily through second collections in parishes as well as direct donations to the CMO fund.
How Your Generosity Made a Difference
A team of three guards per shift, and one part-time guard present during the school day, provides 24/7 security, including visitor sign-in checkpoints, traffic direction, and campus patrols. Many of the children who are residents of COAR Children’s Village come from areas highly affected by gang violence and have experienced situations like human trafficking and familial abuse. With your generous donation through Catholic Mission Outreach, residents and students can live and study in a safe environment.
“For these girls, safety is a start to healing. If they know they are safe, they can finally begin to deal with the trauma they’ve experienced, because they know that someone is there, watching out for them, protecting them.”
-Susan Dinehart, COAR Peace Mission Programs Director
