Restore the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

The second Catholic parish in Atlanta (est. 1880) is undergoing its first comprehensive interior renovation and redecoration project, and we need your support.

A Cornerstone of Catholic History

Established in 1880, the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus was the second Catholic parish in Atlanta, following only the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. From its humble beginnings to its elevation as a Minor Basilica by Pope Benedict XVI in 2010, this sacred space has stood as a beacon of faith, history, and community in Atlanta for over 140 years.

The Future of the Basilica

Now, this cherished landmark is undergoing a comprehensive interior renovation, "For Such a Time as This," to preserve its magnificent heritage and enhance its sacred beauty for generations to come. From the ground up, this vital project encompasses everything from new flooring throughout the Nave and Vestibule – revealing traces of the 1978 firebombing – to the installation of new pews, painting the walls, ceilings, and columns, significant lighting and audio-visual upgrades, redecoration of the Apse and Triumphal Arch, and much more.
