With the help of a remarkable donor, the Sisters Poor of Jesus Christ have a new van to further their mission at House St. Katherine Drexel in Cedartown, GA

The Sisters and Friars Poor of Jesus Christ serve the marginalized in 18 countries.  Fr. Timothy Gallagher of St. Bernadette Catholic Church was moved by their devotion to those struggling with homelessness, poverty, and addiction.  He invited the order to begin a mission in Georgia.

St. Katherine Drexel is home to six sisters.  Every Monday, they travel for street ministry. They bring food, clothes, hygiene products, and, most especially, compassion for those who feel abandoned.

“This person has a name. He has a story. He has a background. He has a lot of things in his life. And we are here because of this person. We are trying to share with him this love of God.”

Unfortunately, they were hindered by a barely functioning van.  It made simple tasks like buying groceries uncertain and longer journeys impossible.

A kind donor learned of their plight through the Office of Mission Advancement and offered aid. With their newly gifted van, the sisters can safely travel throughout the region.

The fruits of their mission are felt in Cedartown, Rome, Villa Rica, Carrollton, and beyond.  St. Katherine Drexel serves as a formation house, allowing young women from across the country to consider religious life.

With the freedom of a new van, the Sisters Poor of Jesus Christ can continue their service to the community.

“Even in the grocery stores, people say, ‘What are you? What are you doing? What church are you from?’ Then, they share with us their lives or a situation or they ask for prayers…They tell us, ‘Thank you for being here!'”
